The colour of a lure and how it looks out of the water isn't always how it looks underwater, especially as the water gets deeper and different colours are absorbed by the water at different depths. Also how we see a colour isn't always the same as how a fish sees that colour. A colour doesn't have to be an exact match to something from the wild to be appealing to fish. There's many different visual elements that contribute to a fish wanting to eat a lure.
