The Alphas is designed for lighter work. While it would throw a 30g lure, I'd be inclined to use a different reel and reel that will better match the rod you'd use to throw a 30g lure. Also you'd want more a reel with more line capacity than the Alphas, especially if you're running a thicker/heavier line.
