I would recommend a reel like a 5000 size 23 Legalis (MSRP- $160) matched to a rod such as the Tatula XT 762MHFS (MSRP- $150) or Crossfire Surf 862L (MSRP- $90).

Correct. A longer rod will allow you to cast further.
