For the most part you want your line to be as invisible as possible. Monofilament and flurocarbon lines achieve that better than PE line due to being transparent. If using PE line choose a line colour that's best suited to colour of the water that you're fishing. For example when fishing saltwater blue and chartreuse colours line work best because they camouflage better than a darker line. Of course when using PE lines you'll want to use a leader (mono or fluro) as this transparent tip end further helps hide the presence of your lure, especially where it connects to you bait or lure.
