When you're using braided or PE line you always want to attach a flurocarbon or monofilament leader to the end. Braid/PE is visible in the water, and attaching a leader on the end of your mainline makes your connection between line and lure/bait less visible, and maximises the action of your lure.
A 1- 1/5m length of leader is traditionally enough in most situations and match the weight (breaking strain) of the leader to the species you're chasing and the area you're fishing. A 8lb mainline with a 8 or 10lb leader is a standard setup for most light tackle estuary (bream, flathead, trevally) species.
There are many knots that you can use to connect the mainline and leader, our Tech Tip Playlist on YouTube has a selection for you- https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...
